PozMUN marked a pivotal moment for me, as it was the first conference where I truly felt in the right place. Despite a few organizational hiccups, such as logistics and scheduling issues, it stood out as one of the best conferences I've attended.
The General Assembly had a unique structure – the Security Council (SC) was tasked with delivering quick, more general speeches, followed by other countries joining the General Speaker's List (GSL). While this format had its merits, in my opinion, the SC speeches still consumed too much time, allowing only a handful of countries to voice their opinions.
I, representing Israel, aimed to defend our stance on the Gaza conflict and counter arguments about potential genocide. Unfortunately, time constraints made my speech lackluster. I faced a barrage of pointed questions from the audience, forcing me to vigorously defend myself just to exit the stage with my head held high.
Despite these initial challenges, the committee sessions turned out to be exhilarating. My classmate, who represented Ukraine, and I took charge, steering the discussions toward our shared goals.
As the session progressed, Syria suggested writing the resolution on her laptop, drawing a crowd to collaborate. Despite our majority and eventual appropriation of the resolution, she was awarded the Best Delegate, even though she was absent during the final General Assembly – a situation I found somewhat disrespectful. Notably, the Syrian delegate and one of the chairs were close friends who shared a room during the conference. Just an observation.
In the end, my friend and I received honorable mentions and Amazon iPads as prizes. It was a pleasant surprise, and we were genuinely pleased with the recognition.
Beyond the conference, we had the chance to explore the charming city of Poznan. It was my first time exploring the city and its landmarks, and I was thoroughly impressed. The highlight for me was the enormous shopping center housed in a former brewery. Despite the ongoing restructuring of the city square, the atmosphere was fantastic. The only downside was the constant barrage of advertising, with people shouting about their businesses, ranging from restaurants to literal brothels. At least it helped me decide where not to go.
To sum up, the trip was undeniably successful – I learned a great deal during the conference, explored a beautiful and captivating city, and made connections with wonderful people that I'm still in contact with today.
Would recommend, 7/10. Position Paper
